Tiny Bites 10: Gratitude & Turkey

November 23, 2017
TINY Bites Ep.10 - Gratitude & Turkey | Tiny Ambitions

Happy Tiny Bites day! And, happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends out there.

Since it’s Thanksgiving, I wanted to spend this week’s episode of Tiny Bites talking about gratitude and how we can practice being grateful in our day-to-day lives.

Can we be grateful even, and especially when our day kicks our butt?

Click play below to listen to this week’s episode.

What are you grateful for today? It can be something extraordinary or mundane, your choice!

Firstly, congrats on having published ten episodes of Tiny Bites, Britt! That’s an awesome achievement and something I am sure you are really proud of. The episodes are always fantastic and really complement the content of your blog posts. They also provide a great sense of relatability for us, your audience, being able to hear you discuss your topics in person. I love it!

I also completely forgot to congratulate you before on your other post that you had published on No Sidebar. I was so excited for you when I read that! That was one of the first websites I encountered when I got into minimalism and I still go back there often. I am sure there are many readers over there who will really enjoy your piece and who will benefit from visiting your blog.

As for the concept of mundane gratitude, well, that is a real nugget of wisdom! You make an excellent point that it’s very easy to be grateful when everything is going well. After all, who could not be grateful when life throws at you nothing but one good thing after the other? In the crappier moments of life I try and remind myself that it’s all relative. If I’m privileged enough to have a roof over my head and never have a doubt that I’ll eat three square meals on any given day, then I truly have nothing to complain about. As for what I’m feeling grateful for today, it’s definitely that I had the unintentional foresight to make an extra large dinner last night that we couldn’t finish off. I have a serious case of Monday-itis today and am looking forward to the luxury of just heating and eating tonight!!

Thanks, Lisa! That is so kind of you. I enjoy making Tiny Bites, so I’m glad there is at least one person out there who enjoys listening to them. I hope you got some clickthroughs from the No Sidebar piece – since it wouldn’t have even happened without you! As for mundane gratitude, I do think a good chunk of it comes down to recognizing our privilege and how our ‘problems’ wouldn’t be considered problems by a large percent of the population on the planet. I do struggle with that idea sometimes though because I also believe we can only deal with what we can deal with. Meaning, just because our problems are not monumental and life-altering, doesn’t mean they aren’t still valid in the context of our day to day life. But, I do think having some perspective can help us through the more frivolous of our problems.

Also – leftovers are the greatest. We normally have leftovers for a couple of meals no matter what we’re making. It’s like the gift that keeps on giving! Thanks for an insightful comment as always!

Ha! I nearly choked on my tea when you talked about being grateful that no one had puked today! Been there, done that, more times than I care to remember 🙂 Mundane gratitude – thank you – made my day.

Ya! I’m glad to have made you laugh!! Thanks for listening.

Mundane gratitude is basically the only way I know how to practice gratitude but I’ve never had a way to describe it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic!

    • Britt November 24, 2017 at 5:25 pm

Haha I’m glad I could add a phrase to what you’ve been feeling. I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees the importance of it!

Love mundane gratitude. On that theme, I’m grateful that, while my back is sore, it’s not as sore as it has been and it won’t prevent me from going out for a walk this afternoon.

    • Britt November 24, 2017 at 5:24 pm

Congrats on your back being a little better! Having body pain is so stressful.
