Redefining Abundance

Redefining Abundance | Tiny Ambitions

After an emotional evening listening to the Strombo Shows Hip 30 (like a good Canadian), I started pondering what abundance means to me or what it would mean if we just broaden our minds a little bit.

The word itself can be thought of as ironic to minimalists – since ‘abundant’ by its very definition means ‘more’. More, in our cultural context most often translates as more/bigger/better things.

In my mind, abundance is the things that bring you joy in life. I’m sure that is different for every person. It could be money, family, friends, experiences, things, health. We can redefine it for ourselves if we want to – if our current definition no longer serves the view of what we want in our life.

If your ideal abundant life is filled with these decadent things, I think that’s awesome. Everyone should have the opportunity to achieve what they want in their one and only life.

What would an abundant life look like to me?

  • Being able to contribute something meaningful to the world
  • A modest home filled only with things I truly love
  • Being able to spend my time doing what makes my heart feel full
  • Having wonderfully deep relationships that stand the test of time

If I were to picture it, it would look and feel like warmth, love and light.

Sounds pretty abundant to me!

Very true that there is a bit of a paradox going on when it comes to abundance and minimalism. I definitely agree that it doesn’t have to be related to ‘stuff’. I would define abundance as the feeling of having endless possibilities before oneself. That is a truly wonderful feeling! 🙂

I love that! That is so poetic. I know that if I had endless possibilities before me I wouldn’t even know where to start!
